Iron Dick Review

Caught a showing of the highly-anticipated Iron Man this past friday. What do I have to say? Solid movie. At Comic-con, director Jon Favreau pointed out Batman Begins was his inspiration on reinventing comic book movies. Plots parallel much? We have a main hero find new direction in his life after some catalytic event with some element from that event come back to challenge his new abilities. I didn't mind much, as they really tried to ground the origin in the realm of possibility. Robert Downey was definitely the best pick for the role of Tony Stark, but the addition of a side love interest with Paltrow as Mrs. Potts felt a bit tacked on. But overall here's what I thought.

Good: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, his relationships with the other characters and his snappy dialogue was very convincing of his playboy attitude, not overusing CG, Jarvis as a sardonic AI program, decent plot with a good balance of action and character development, Full actualization of the Iron Man suit and how it's designed and structured, cameos with Stan Lee and Kramer from Mad Money, 10% thrust.

Bad: Side romance, not enough action sequences, SHIELD Director Nick Fury is bad-ass Sam..oh wait that's not bad at all.

Ugly: Yo momma

If Tony Stark was able to make a miniature arc reactor in a cave with some scraps, what would Macguyver be able to make?

Rambo Review

tldr: it was a blast, action packed and shitty dialogue, though there were some awesome one-liners. If you recall the stats from the previous post, you have to agree after seeing this film that it was overkill to the max. The sniper shots were explosive and village attacks brutal. Here were some of my friends' favorite quotes:

"Get back to the boat boat-man"

"When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing"

Thanks Stallone for bringing back some much needed carnage in my otherwise mundane life.

Rambo!

Rambo IV coming up this friday and damn has it been a long time since Stallone has been in anything (ok since before Rocky Balboa). You could say he's past his prime, a has-been, all washed up, and that this movie will be just for shit and giggles due to all the carnage. You might be damn right! but in all seriousness and respect to his career I know I'm gonna enjoy it. To hype everyone up, let's see some clips of how Rambo was in the past leading to this current "dressed" iteration now.

Rambo First Blood Part II

The movie that everyone remembers wherein Rambo was Rambo and not a copkiller.

Clips from Rambo IV

As you can see, there's a pretty big jump in asskicking, but just how much more gung-ho gratuity is there? Well a friend of mine found this newspaper clipping by a Prof. John Mueller who actually analyzed all 4 movies. 3 Kills per min? LOL. Check out Rambo's stats and new movie this friday.

Cloverfield review

So how was subject Cloverfield? I actually enjoyed it! On the other hand I know that many others didn't find it favorable. I realize alot of people did not favor the shaky hand-cam, first person approach to this giant monster movie since it only showed you just mere glimpses of the monster and the events, thus limiting our scope of knowledge and visual clarification of wtf is going on. The fact that the movie did not end on a good note wasn't also a total crowd pleaser as well. I came into the movie expecting such storytelling in this fashion that I wasn't shocked when it actually became reality. This is because we have JJ Abrams at the helm, and if you don't know about JJ and his penchant for mysteries such as on TV series Lost, you'd better inform yourself. If you'd like a more thorough review, this one from joblo.com pretty much sums up what I thought as well. It was refreshing to get a monster movie not done in the typical omniscient view wherein you can usually see or guess what's gonna happen next. Well granted there were many hints to what would happen soon in the movie, but forcing the viewer through a hand-cam view made it feel like a much more personal experience ala Blair Witch style. Well I won't bore with any more details but if anyone has been hankering for more answers and clarification, check out this nice FAQ from imdb. If you've been wondering did they really nuke Manhattan, what the hell was that thing that fell into the ocean towards the end, or what did they say at the end of the credits: you'll find it all explained here. There's also alot of viral marketing effort that ties in with the movie sort of mentioned on that faq. Heck, JJ has even created a manga tie-in, though I can't understand and you gotta find elsewhere if there's a link with the bullied boy and the monster.

ps: if you still think Cloverfield sucks or got motion sickness, at least you gotta agree on the fine ladies.

Some of Akira Kurosawa's films have fallen into public domain such as Rashomon and Ikiru. What does that mean for you? It means you better have some free time to waste

Knight Rider Until you DIE

Newspost Here

If KITT transforms on this one then im on board

Whoopty Fucking doo...a new Knight Rider. I'm not sure if I can stomach another Knight Rider spin-off. 2 straight-to-tv movies and a drudgery of a tv series (Team Knight Rider, though I watched it since there wasn't much else to watch) left a sour taste in my mouth. While the plot may seem affable, I'll still have my reservations.

Beowulf

I am Beowulf!

Caught a 3D showing of Beowulf on its first day. It's a pretty solid flick on its own and the 3D enhances the action sequences rather nicely (great moaning jugs!). Neil fucking Gaiman and Roger Avary had some fun with reinterpreting the story, while pacing seems off at times, they make the plot and relationships much simpler to process for the audience.

Final Verdict: it's a bit above a wait-for-rental flick, so if you decide to watch it, make sure you catch it in 3D at an IMAX or whatnot. Some great action sequences for CG!
